WHITBY - On Sunday, Nick Mole competed at the highly anticipated 2023 Ontario International Nogi Open, hosted at the Abilities Centre in Whitby Ontario.

Nick Mole, 2022 Canada National Champion, showed why he was ranked 52nd on the 2022 AJP World Rankings, by taking gold at this year's Open. Mole was crowned Male Masters 1 Blue Belt Light Weight division champion, submitting all his opponents in a flawless performance. Kilian Academy Program Director, Abrie Kilian stated: “Since his peerless performance as a white belt, Nick has stepped up to the blue belt division to continue his dominance in grappling. With an already well-established game plan, we refined what we have learned since the ADCC earlier this year, which saw Nick levelling up his competition performance.”

Mole, who took gold at last year's Open, continued his impressive grappling record of 19-1, in competitive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Owen Sounder, representing both Kilian Academy and both Grey and Bruce Counties stated “I thoroughly enjoy competing and testing myself against the best in grappling and my performance will inspire the youth in our region to consider grappling as a sport”, stated Mole. “I am thankful to my coach, Abrie Kilian and my training partners at Kilian Academy for teaching me more about myself. I dedicate my success to my son Ethan, who inspires me to leave a legacy that I pray will inspire him one day.”

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has recently surpassed karate as the second most common martial art in the United States of America, second only to boxing and has had similar levels of popularity in Canada. With the continued popularity of mixed martial arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has seen an unprecedented rise in popularity in the world, making it one of the fastest-growing activities on the globe.

“We wish to invite the whole of Grey Bruce County, young and old, to visit their facility in Shallow Lake and engage in a journey of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. For those who wish to form part of our competition squad, contact us so that we can get you prepared. We also have a wonderful group of weekend warriors that train with our competition team to ensure that they are ready to represent both the Academy and Grey Bruce County.” Added Kilian.
