Abrie Kilian
IBJJF DOUBLE GOLD!
Updated: Sep 22, 2022

TORONTO – Saturday (17 September 2022) saw the prestigious IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu tournament return to Canada, since its absence from Canada in 2018. Abrie Kilian, Program Director at Kilian Academy, represented both Kilian Academy and Grey-Bruce county at this year's tournament.
Forty-Two-year-old Abrie Kilian, and Sauble resident, competed in the Masters 3 (40 years and older) Medium Heavy Weight Division and was awarded a default gold after his sole opponent withdrew from the tournament. Kilian qualified for the Open Class Division; a division available to all medalists in the age category with no weight limit. Kilian was able to secure gold and crowned champion. “A default medal is always a disappointment, especially after you have put in a lot of hard work to compete. However, I am grateful that the medal granted me the opportunity to compete in the Open Class division and at least earn my second medal.”
Fresh from his victory a week ago at the 2022 GTA Classic, athletes at Kilian Academy are getting ready to compete at the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Tour, which will take place in Niagara on the 15th of October. The AJP Tour is one of the premier tournaments in Canada with gold medalists considered Canadian Champions. Kilian Academy athletes are looking forward to representing Grey-Bruce County at this year's AJP Tour in Niagara.
“Sean and Alec Wildeboer, athletes at Kilian Academy, were crowned champions in the adult white belt division last year. Their performance has inspired the Academy and our community to add to the list of Canadian Champions. We hope that our community will rally behind our athletes to recognize Grey Bruce as serious contenders in the BJJ annual tournament circuit.”
