13 ATHLETES AT CANADIAN NATIONALS

Alec Wildeboer crowned 2021 AJP Canadian Champion in the 56kg division.

SHALLOW LAKE –Saturday the 15th of October 2022, the 2022 AJP Tour Canada National Pro will be hosted at the Niagara Convention Centre. Drawing from across the continent, 13 athletes from Kilian Academy will represent Grey-Bruce at this year's National Pro.

Sean and Alec Wildeboer, crowned 2021 Canadian National Champions in the adult white belt division, have since moved on to blue belt. Both brothers have their sites to continue their dominance in the 56kg and 62kg blue belt amateur divisions, respectively.

Curran Dixon, from Holland Centre, returns to The Pro after securing 9th in last year’s tournament, ranking 43rd overall in Canada. Dixon is set to improve last year's performance in the 11-man 77kg white belt amateur division.

Nick Mole’s performance over the last year has set him as one of the most exciting competitors at The Pro. Unbeaten in 2021/2022, the Double Ontario Champion is set to add the 2022 Canadian National Pro Champion title to his list of accomplishments. Mole will compete in the 5-man 77kg white belt master division.

St Mary’s pupil and 2022 Ontario Champion, Ethan Guichelaar, will make his debut at The Pro. The fifteen-year-old will face off in a 3-man 67kg teen division for white and grey belts to determine who will be the 2022 Canadian Champion.

The Pro will also see Owen Sounder Michael Butt make his debut in the 4-man 77kg master white belt division. The 47-year-old is fresh from his victory at the 2022 GTA Classic and is set to have a strong performance at The Pro.

Officer Brad Robertson, from the Owen Sound Police, will make his debut at The Pro in the 6-man 77kg master division for blue belts. The 2022 ASG Champion will look to put up a stellar performance at The Pro.

Abrie Kilian makes his return to the AJP Tour, after an absence of 10 years. The IBJJF Toronto Champion will duel in a purple belt master division.

Another Owen Sound resident, Mike McGahan will compete in his first Pro Championship at 94kg in an 8-man white belt amateur division.

Ice-hockey phenom, Adam Smart, will make his competitive debut at the Pro, in the 3-man 94kg amateur blue belt division.

30-year-old Daniël Macumber, will make his competitive debut at The Pro. Macumber will march together with teammate Nick Mole, in the 5-man 77kg white belt master division.

Derrick Scheper, a pupil at Harvest Canadian Reformed Christian School will also make his competitive debut at The Pro. The 13-year-old will compete as a junior in a 3-man 55kg white belt division.

Michael Andrews, the 32-year-old Toronto firefighter and Chesley resident, makes his debut at The Pro against a 9-man 69kg white belt amateur division.

In its first year of competitive jiu-jitsu and only in its second tournament, Kilian Academy was ranked 19th in Canada following the 2021 AJP Tour Canada National Pro. The Academy hopes to see it improve its overall ranking.

Ranked as one of the most prestigious tournaments on the annual Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Calendar in both Canada and North America, this year’s tournament will be no exception. The Pro allows for both athletes and academies to be ranked in Canada and International.

The National Championship will be broadcast online, and martial art enthusiasts are granted the opportunity to watch the matches live through the AJP Tour website.
