In May 2012, Chris Venter started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as one of the core students at Kilian Academy, Vryheid (South Africa). Within a short period of time, Chris became Abrie Kilian’s preferred training partner and together competed in numerous BJJ-tournaments throughout South Africa. In 2014, Chris was promoted to Senpai and instructed the youth program at the Academy. Chris was awarded his blue belt in December of 2019, the first blue belt at Kilian Academy. After Kilian relocated to Canada in 2017, the Academy was renamed Rio Grappling Vryheid, where Venter still continues to share the art of BJJ as owner and head instructor.

Charl Beukes
In July 2012, Charl Beukes started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, shortly after Kilian Academy was officially opened to the public on the 3rd of July 2012. Charl competed in numerous BJJ-tournaments throughout South Africa. In 2014, Charl was promoted to Senpai. Charl was awarded his blue belt in December 2019, the second blue belt at Kilian Academy.

Justin Gough
In October 2012, Justin Gough started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Kilian Academy. Justin competed in numerous BJJ-tournaments in South Africa and was awarded his blue belt in February 2016, the third blue belt at Kilian Academy. In 2016, Justin was promoted to Senpai. Justin relocated to New Zealand in March 2017 and continues his adventure in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Axis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Christchurch. Justin was awarded his purple belt on the 17th of February 2021 by Axis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Bertus Venter
Bertus Venter started his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey in January 2015 at Kilian Academy. Bertus made a brief, yet successful, appearance at the 2015 Hanami Challenge. Bertus received his blue belt in January 2017, the fourth blue belt at Kilian Academy.

Trevor Hunt
High-Performance Ice Hockey Athlete, Trevor Hunt, started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2016 at the UFC Gym in Mississauga. After relocating to Grey County, started training at Kilian Academy in October of 2019. Trevor was invited to showcase his ability on the 10th of April 2021 and was awarded his blue belt on the same day. Trevor is still an athlete at Kilian Academy and will be relocating to the United States during the summer of 2022.

Sean Wildeboer
Sean Wildeboer started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2019 and relocated to Kilian Academy in January 2021. Sean's game was reformed and in October 2021, Seans was crowned Canadian Champion at the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro in Toronto. Sean was also crowned 2021 GTA Classic Champion and was promoted to blue belt on the 19th of March 2022. A month into his blue belt, Sean secured a bronze medal the 2022 Ontario Open International Championship. Sean is still training out The Academy.
